Using different aliases in Gmail can help you manage your emails more efficiently and protect your privacy. There are two ways to use aliases in Gmail: using a variation of your existing email address or adding another email address that you own.

How To Add Email Alias

To use a variation of your existing email address, you can add a plus sign (+) and any word before the @ sign. For example, if your email address is john@gmail.com, you can use john+work@gmail.com or john+shopping@gmail.com as aliases. You can also add dots (.) anywhere in the local part of your email address. For example, john@gmail.com and j.o.h.n@gmail.com are the same address. You can use these variations to filter and sort your incoming emails².

To use another email address that you own as an alias, you need to verify that you own that address and add it to your Gmail account. To do that, follow these steps:

- On your computer, open Gmail.

- In the top right, click Settings > See all settings.

- Click the Accounts and import or Accounts tab.

- In the Send mail as section, click Add another email address.

- Enter your name and the address you want to use as an alias.

- Click Next Step > Send verification.

- Sign in to the account you added and open the confirmation message from Gmail.

- Click the link to confirm that you own the address.

You can then choose which email address to show up in the From field when you send an email. You can also use Gmail search operators to filter emails sent to different aliases.
